Making A Titanic Wreck Site Model

I make Titanic wreck models out of the 1:350 Minicraft Titanic model kit and various other materials. While using the instuction booklet, I also use the book "The Discovery Of The Titanic" by Robert Ballard. Using these 2 referances, along with videos, I create my own instruction manual by using different parts of each referance point.

I have been intrigued by the Titanic and her wreck for about 15 years now,and about a year and a half ago, I decided to try to make a wreck site modl out of a regular model kit. I used the Revell 1:570 Titanic model, along with various materials. It turned out pretty good, but the detail was not that good. About 1/2 a year later, I bought the 1:350 Minicraft kit and it turned out great! The detail and accuracy was incredible.

Since then, I have made and sold 6 wreck models to teachers and Titanic collectors in four different states(California,Ohio,Iowa,Pennsylvania) and two other countries:-) (Australia and Canada) I make these models as a memorial to the 1,523 people who lost thier lives on April 15, 1912. It is also a memorial to the Titanic herself, because I make the 1986 version-when she was in the best shape since the discovery 11 months before. In these models,I try to capture the dignity and majesty that has been lost over the last 14 years. Soon, within 10 years, the Titanic will collapse and resemble only a pile of wreckage. I'm making these models to remember her the way she was on the ocean bottom, before there was any salvaging, and before the decay we see today.

My ultimate goal with these models was for them to be used in an educational display. A teacher from Iowa ordered a wreck model from me that will become part of a presentation on the Titanic disaster. He gives these presentations all around the state-in schools and universities. So far, the model was in 4 presentations, and he said that it is a great referance point.:-) This model is the one that I am most proud of. I am greatful that I can express my passion for the Titanic through these models.

Thank You,
